Milk Thistle Tea: A Natural Remedy for Acne

There are many forms of treatment available to those that suffer from the occurrence of acne, however it is generally advised to rely on more natural herbal remedies. This is because herbal remedies characteristically come without the added and unwanted side effects of over the counter medications.  Many will claim that herbal remedies such as milk thistle tea even show signs of working far more effectively than other methods, making it one of the most popular natural remedies for acne.

What is Acne?

Acne is caused when the skin’s oil glands produce too much oil, usually in response to hormones or foreign particles and bacteria on the skin. When this oil builds up and meshes with dead skin cells it can sometimes block the pores of the skin and trap the bacteria inside which leads to the growth of pimples, white heads, and black heads. Acne most often occurs on the face but can also develop on the neck, chest, and back as well.

What Causes Acne?

It can be hard to pinpoint the exact causes behind the appearance of acne, though there are some factors that are known to attribute to it. Elements such as diet, oils produced by the skin, allergies, stress, and hormonal imbalances can all play a part in causing acne to appear. Certain diet factors such as eating foods that are greasy or high in sugars can increase the frequency of acne appearing, especially since sugar can have an effect on the hormone balance in the body.

Other causes that may also affect the appearance of acne are the application of certain make up and lotions or if there are problems in the digestive system. Age may also be a factor since it is more typical for teenagers to experience outbreaks of acne due to hormone imbalances in their body.

Using Milk Thistle Tea For Acne

Milk thistle tea is high in beneficial flavonoids as well as antioxidants that can help prevent the manifestation of acne on the skin. Milk thistle can strengthen the proper function of the liver which can also help rid acne.  A liver that is not working at its best can cause hormonal imbalances which lead to breakouts of acne. Therefore, when using this tea to ease the appearance of acne it is good to drink one to two cups a day regularly.
